The ONE and ONLY surprise of the night for me was "Precious" taking Best Adapted Screenplay. I had "Up in the Air" pegged, and though I was disappointed about the upset I liked "Precious" enough for it to make my top 5 of 2009.

The only real highlights for me were Mo'Nique and Christoph Waltz's speeches. Oh, and trying to figure out what the hell Vera Farmiga was wearing. I never care about the dresses and tuxes, but seriously, V? I love you, but what the hell?

I must have missed The Hurt Locker debate, everyone I spoke to were overjoyed that Avatar didn't win and happy for The Hurt Locker. While I thought the The Hurt Locker was good and Avatar was okay, I wish Inglourious Basterds had more than a token chance at winning. Amazing screenplay. Shame its only award came from Christoph Waltz, who was an absolute certainty to win. Not sure what made him a supporting actor though.

Precious in the Best Adapted Screenplay and that Argie film in the Foreign Language categories were the biggest WTF? moments for me.

Hi Katie, yeah I was telling Red @ Anomalous Material that this year's acting nods seem much more predictable! I'm not fumed about the Academy's picks on those categories though, not even with Sandra winning (though I'm obviously in the minority amongst bloggers). As who should win Best Picture? Inglourious Basterds hands down!! QT is robbed beyond belief! But yeah, it's probably wise not to rehash the THL debate, I'm ready to get the Oscar thing behind us... now bring on the Summer blockbusters! :)
